Come one, come all! Instagram advertising open to all businesses.

After months of trials by select businesses in the US and UK, Instagram has opened up advertising to businesses of all sizes, everywhere.

The phenomenal photo-sharing app with a community of over 300 million users made the announcement late last week to the delight of businesses across the globe.

“Thousands of businesses around the world already use Instagram as their shop window, and we’re making it easier for them to do more on the platform, from brand to direct response ads.”

“Businesses of all sizes have been testing these new capabilities this summer with positive results.”

A study conducted by Kenshoo on these early trials revealed that users are two and a half times more likely to click on Instagram advertisements than ads on other social media platforms.

Advertisers on Instagram will be able to target their messages effectively and reach people based on their specific interests whether that be food, fashion, travel or beauty. Using a variety of direct response formats that link outside of Instagram such as ‘Shop Now’, ‘Sign Up’ and ‘Learn More’ people can learn more about businesses or products straight from Instagram.

Instagram’s ‘Instagram for Business’ page outlines the different advertising styles available for businesses. Similar to advertisements on Facebook, Instagram’s advertising formats include Image Ads, Video Ads and Carousel Ads.

  • Image Ads: Use beautiful, simple imagery to entice people to take action.

  • Video Ads: Share video ads up to 30 seconds long to tell a story.

  • Carousel Ads: Share more with additional images viewable by swiping

When advertising on Instagram, remember to utilise Instagram’s editing tools and filters to make sure your ads have that ‘Instagram’ look and feel that the platform is known for.
