09 May Highlights from This Year’s Facebook F8 Conference
#1: Group Video Chat coming to Instagram
Zuckerberg highlighted in his F8 keynote that he was amazed at how many people use live video just to hang out when they can’t be physically together. Which is why he announced that Instagram will be jumping on the bandwagon and will launch its very own Video Chat, giving users the ability to chat privately with multiple people over video call.
You’ll be able to minimise the video window, allowing you to continue to scroll through your Instagram feed… Talk about multitasking!
#2: FaceDate – Tinder for Facebook?
Still single? Don’t worry Facebook has you covered.
With Facebook’s mantra of ‘building meaningful connections on the platform, Zuckerberg has announced plans to introduce a dating service.
Users will be able to create a profile separate to their current account that’s only visible to non-friends who have also opted in to looking for love. The dating service will focus on “real long-term relationships” and “not just for hook-ups.”
This feature will be one to keep an eye on! Shortly after the announcement, the share price of Match Group (parent company of Match.com), fell 22%, as well as Tinder falling more than 16%!
#3: Clear History on Facebook
After the huge Cambridge Analytica scandal that everyone heard about, Facebook is trying to help users protect their privacy by introducing a new feature that allows you to clear all browsing history on the platform.
This will turn off Facebook’s ability to store the data associated with your account going forward and any history of the sites and apps you have previously used will be removed.
