Getting creative to drive recycling amongst residents for Noosa Council

Noosa Shire Council is a local government authority in the state of Queensland, located 140km north of Brisbane. Noosa Shire covers an area of 871 square kilometres and is home to more than 54,000 people.

The challenge

We’ve worked with Noosa Council for over five years across multiple creative campaigns as well as provided social media training to members of Noosa Council. Creative campaigns include Waste, recycling, transport, as well as planning and development.

The latest campaign was for Noosa Council Waste and Recycling. We were tasked with creating a series of videos aimed to educate residents on the biggest recycling questions, myths, do’s and don’ts.

Noosa Council wanted to deliver something ‘out of the box’ and a new way to educate and entertain residents.

Part of the challenge was to ensure creative was educational and informative, while also remaining entertaining and potentially humorous, without patronising or judging (we don’t want to make people feel bad if they have been doing the wrong thing when it comes to recycling, we want them to be educated and inspired to do the right thing).

The solution

Creative development of a ‘Game Show’ series with a host and leading actress demanded to answer questions about waste and recycling.

The humour is in the very recognisable situations and the increasing pressure (and the possible consequence) of answering questions.

Execution included 4 x Game Show ‘episodes’ plus a bloopers reel.

The impact

The campaign was very well received in the Noosa Shire. Positive feedback was received from both the client and residents commented that they learnt a lot from the videos.

What they said

“Working with Insight on our waste education campaign in 2023 was a pleasure. Simon, Glenn and the team shared a range of super creative concepts with us that met our brief perfectly. They were attentive and responsive to our timelines and revisions, and they delivered the videos on time and within budget. The videos educated residents on what we can put in our bins with humour and light-hearted fun. The videos were a hit on our social media platforms, and we received a lot of positive feedback and engagement. We are very happy with the outcome of the project, and we highly recommend the team at Insight to anyone who needs a creative, fun, and reliable agency to work with.”
